OUR PROJECTS

Christmas Program
Our annual Christmas program has served over 650 children to date. Each year we host an Angel Tree program providing new 'under the tree' gifts to children in foster care and children at risk of being placed in foster care.

Christmas Shop
In 2021 we opened our first 'Christmas Shop'. This Shop is hosted at LIFE House and is filled with new gifts. Parents whose children are currently in foster care are invited to 'shop' (at no charge) for gifts for their children and given a chance to wrap their gifts before visiting their children.

Blessing Bags
When a child enters foster care they often have little more than the clothes they are wearing. Blessing bags are given to a child on the day they enter foster care and are filled with items a child needs to settle into a new home. In 2021 we distributed 346 blessing bags.

Teen Visit Room
The Children's Home of Reading operates a foster care program and a residential program for teens. The agency needed a visit space designed with teens in mind. Thanks to the support of a generous sponsor we were able to create a "Teen Zen Den" visit space.

New Playrooms at CHOR
During the spring and summer of 2021 we updated two playrooms at The Children's Home of Reading to make them more welcoming for families visiting with their children.

Preschool Playroom
This 'Under the Sea' playroom is located at LIFE House in Reading, PA. This room was completed in Summer 2020.

Adventure Awaits
Lauren Swartz and her family sponsored this room at LIFE House, dedicating their work to the memory of Lauren's Grandma Liz Wocjciechowski.

Disney Infant Room
This room is located at LIFE House in Reading. The owner of the house is a big Disney fan and this room was made over with this love of Disney in mind. This room was completed in Summer 2020.

Rainbow Room
As a foster Mom, Meagan DiMariano knows how imporant visit spaces can be. She and her family sponsored this rainbow themed visit room at Child and Family First and gave it a bright, colorful makeover.

Teen Visit Room
Located at LIFE House this was our first room makeover, completed in Summer 2019.

Open Door Visit Room
This playroom was completed in Summer 2020 and features a "Woodland" theme.

LIFE House Backyard
When visits restarted after the COVID-19 shut down part of the plan to encourage social distancing was to host as many visits as possible outdoors. With the help of generous donors we were able to set up the LIFE House back yard to be a fun, engaging visit space for families.

Toy Store
This 'toy store' hosted at Threads of Change is designed from children newley placed in foster care. The 'store' includes new and gently used toys for children to pick from, giving them a chance to pick out a few toys to take to their new foster home.

Hallway Make Over
This hallway at LIFE House leads to the various visit rooms. It is now a fun, bright, welcoming entrance way to the visit spaces.
